Don’t Forget!

The Writers’ Festival is just a few short weeks away but tonight, and tonight only Haider Al-Kabi will be reading in the Fireplace Lounge at 7:30pm.

Haider Al-Kabi is an Iraqi poet, author of Bombardment (Al-Mada, Damascus, 1998) and co-editor of Flowers of Flame (Michigan State University Press, 2008), the first anthology of Iraqi poetry since the American invasion. In Flowers of Flame, the events of the war—the bombings, the fall of Saddam Hussein, the invading forces, the sectarian violence—can be seen through Iraqi eyes. This volume allows the world to hear voices of women, minorities, and the oppressed on an historic series of events.
