Poetry Reading by Haider Al-Kabi

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010

7:30 p.m.

Alston Fireplace Lounge

Haider Al-Kabi is an Iraqi poet, author of Bombardment (Al-Mada, Damascus, 1998) and co-editor of Flowers of Flame (Michigan State University Press, 2008), the first anthology of Iraqi poetry since the American invasion.  In Flowers of Flame, the events of the war—the bombings, the fall of Saddam Hussein, the invading forces, the sectarian violence—can be seen through Iraqi eyes.  This volume allows the world to hear voices of women, minorities, and the oppressed on an historic series of events.

I’ll be sure to remind you as the date gets closer!
